How do designers imagine the city of the future? What visions and alternatives do they explore?
The curators Sarah Dorkenwald and Alexandra Weigand focused for the exhibition »HIT THE FUTURE_METROPOLITAN DESIGN« on the future of big cities. Sustainable urban development is one of the most pressing issues of our time. They showcased projects of the next generation of designers who see their discipline as an extended space where they can provide unexpected, speculative or provocative answers to today’s global challenges.
At the interface of architecture and urban planning the cutting-edge design ideas revolved around questions of energy production, material and urban environment, food production, housing, interculturality, sharing concepts, occupancy of public space and avoidance of waste. In an interdisciplinary exchange with scientists and companies, designers bring current technologies and knowledge to new contexts.
